Overview

Community Cultivation Framework Since our founding, Educopia Institute has empowered communities to increase access to knowledge in all forms. We have always operated with the understanding that system-wide change requires system-wide engagement. Using our Community Cultivation Framework and organizational values to underpin our practices, we work with organizations, networks, leaders, and communities to develop sustainable, intentional plans and solutions.

We tailor our training, facilitation, and tools to every client by understanding the organization’s current development through the lens of the Community Cultivation Framework. Our process has been deeply informed by our work with communities of various shapes, sizes, forms, aims, and needs. From the ideation stage to times of change or crisis, we help our clients develop holistic pathways, structures, and systems to build capacity and navigate complex challenges.

Vision

A community’s vision is the bedrock of its identity and the guiding principle for decision-making. Through our Community Cultivation Framework, we provide tools, training, and strategies to support both emerging and established communities in clarifying their shared vision.

Infrastructure

At Educopia, we recognize the importance of human and technical infrastructure as central to achieving community growth and sustainability. We work with partners to develop strategies around administrative processes, data management practices, documentation workflows, digital preservation, and relationship management tools.

Finances and HR

Drawing from our experiences and research, Educopia supports collaborative groups, communities, and organizations to adapt to changing contexts and consider the resources required to advance their work. We help build capacity through thoughtful market analysis, organizational modeling, product development, sustainability planning, project and operational budgeting, clearly outlining roles and responsibilities, and team restructuring and reorganization.

Engagement

We believe in the power of intentional communication and relationship building to foster healthy, flourishing communities. We facilitate processes and provide concrete tools for engaging community stakeholders through virtual and in-person event planning, strategic communication campaigns (e.g., data storytelling, member and client testimonials, and marketing), audience analysis, community facilitation, and building capacity for skills considered critical to advancing the community’s mission.

Governance

Our experience teaches us that the ability of communities to advance their mission and vision depends on clear and explicit roles and responsibilities as well as transparency around how strategic decisions are made. Educopia supports leadership teams and communities in right-sizing their governance bodies and decision-making processes.

Fiscal Hosting

We provide nimble, affordable hosting infrastructure for projects, communities, and initiatives that want to focus their available resources and energy on what they do best rather than establishing the legal, administrative, and financial scaffolding needed to support those activities. Since 2006, we have provided fiscal and administrative hosting for projects and Affiliated Communities that benefit from our services and share in our status as a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organization.
