Educopia has long been recognized as a force for collaboration and knowledge sharing across libraries, archives, museums, grassroots groups and other knowledge communities. Today, building on our iterative strategic planning process, we’re unveiling something much deeper than a visual refresh—it is a tangible, strategic reaffirmation of Educopia’s goal to do its part in helping shift knowledge systems toward diversity and equity. Simply put, our new brand represents a promise to connect diverse knowledge communities with resources, power, and each other. Our visual identity embodies the spirit of our work and whom we center in it, and is a reminder to our peers, partners and communities of our shared purpose: to create a sustainable knowledge landscape with reduced inequities and increased access to knowledge.

A Brand Rooted in Purpose

Educopia’s new identity isn’t simply about a design overhaul—it’s a clear expression of our purpose. Our visual and verbal identity is intentionally multifaceted, mirroring the complexity of the communities we serve and the diverse initiatives we undertake. This brand represents our mission to facilitate knowledge sharing, foster capacity building, and create networks that contribute to systemic change.

The three vibrant workstreams represented in our new logo—Consulting, Fiscal Sponsorship, and Research—are a visual representation of how we bring people and projects together across the knowledge landscape, combining lived experiences and expertise to foster more equitable access to resources and information. At the foundation of our logo, a stable and open form symbolizes our dedication to transparency and being a backbone organization in our sector. It’s a reminder that Educopia is not just a connector of people and ideas, but a trusted steward of open knowledge, resources, and relationships. Creating safe and welcoming spaces for dialogue, capacity-building, and collaboration amongst networks is core to our ways of working.

Visual Storytelling: Blending Legacy and Innovation

Educopia’s new brand honors our legacy while embracing the future. The visual identity strikes a balance between innovation and preservation, using typography, color, and design to reflect who we are and where we’re headed. By blending classic elements with modern design, we create a sense of continuity, while signaling our adaptability to the evolving nature of the knowledge landscape. Our use of typography reflects this balance. Garnett’s playful, modern touches convey a youthful energy, while ABC Diatype’s semi-mono font evokes the precision and legacy of typewriters.

Our color palette is equally intentional. Inspired by the abundance and diversity of the natural world, it reflects the richness of the communities and projects we support. The bold hues offer vibrancy and optimism, while the neutral, warm white background ensures a welcoming, accessible experience. This balance ensures that our visual presence feels both engaging and approachable—whether we’re connecting with long-time collaborators or new partners.

Operationalizing Equity through Design

Design is a powerful tool for reinforcing values, and our new brand expresses our commitment to operationalizing equity at every level. This rebranding reflects Educopia’s dedication to making space for underrepresented perspectives and redistributing power within the systems we engage with. We see this brand as a living entity—evolving and growing with us as we deepen our engagement with diverse communities and partners. Our visual identity serves as a daily reminder of the core values that inform how we show up in the world, both in our internal operations and in our external work.

“Our new website is the culmination of the last 18 months of capacity building and conveys how the Educopia community of communities understands the nature and impact of Educopia’s work. educopia.org makes visible and accessible the incredible vibrancy of the knowledge communities we serve, while reflecting Educopia’s commitment to equity and creativity.” – Jessica Meyerson, Co-Executive Director, Educopia.

This new visual identity is a bold step into the future for Educopia. It’s designed to inspire collaboration, action, and deeper connections. Our brand is an invitation for partners and communities to join us in building a more equitable, diverse, and accessible knowledge landscape. Join us in this effort by connecting with us and signing up for Educopia’s quarterly newsletter.

Introducing Educopia’s New Website: A Digital Reflection of Our Mission

Alongside our new brand, we’re thrilled to unveil our newly redesigned website, built upon the same principles that guide our organizational vision. Designed with accessibility, inclusivity, and user-centered engagement in mind, this digital platform offers an immersive experience into the core of who we are and what we do.

The website is a key touchpoint for our diverse audiences. We’ve restructured our site to create clear pathways for users to explore our three main workstreams—Consulting, Fiscal Sponsorship, and Research—so they can easily find the tools, resources, and initiatives that matter most to them.

Beyond aesthetics, the redesign is functionally aligned with our mission of equitable access. The website’s architecture and content are carefully crafted to make it more intuitive for our partners to navigate the wealth of knowledge and resources we offer. From streamlined navigation to clear calls-to-action, we’ve focused on user experience to ensure our website is a resourceful, accessible tool for all.

All of this work has been made possible through the generous capacity building support we’ve received from the Mellon Foundation. A special thanks to the talented design + development duo who brought our new brand and website to life. We highly recommend Sophie Greenspan and Mallika Vora’s work.
